Bring in the New Year with NetBank

Many of us begin the New Year with resolutions, determined to improve certain aspects of our lives. So you might be thinking about eating more healthily (after all that holiday fare) or going to the gym a little more regularly, or perhaps just spending more time with your family. It’s also a great time to think about getting your banking and finances into shape.

Just like your other resolutions, it’s the small adjustments that you’re likely to stick to — and are likely to pay off in the long term. So here are some suggestions for simple, effective financial resolutions for 2009:

  1. Look at the big picture.
Talk to a financial planner about your financial goals and how to reach them. Make an appointment with a financial planner today.
  2. Plan your family budget.
Work out your budget for the year ahead with our free budget planning tool. Just putting it down in front of you is a great way to spot areas where you may be able to save.
  3. Stay in control of your spending.
A great way to enjoy the convenience of paying by card but without going into debt is a Commonwealth Bank Debit Mastercard: your cash, your call. To apply, login to NetBank, click on the “Offers & apply” tab and you’ll find the application form on the accounts link.
  4. Start saving regularly.
If you’re still paying off Christmas purchases into the New Year, you may be wondering if there’s a better way. With a NetBank Saver account, you can set up a regular savings plan, earn great interest and pay no account fees — it’s a simple way to save for next Christmas! To apply, login to NetBank, click on the “Offers & apply” tab and you’ll find the application form on the accounts tab.

You can help us reduce our carbon footprint by turning off paper statements and receiving them electronically instead. Find out more. And you can register for BPAY View, so you can receive bills via email, saving more paper (and filing!).
  11. Never miss a bill again.
Schedule your bills and easily keep track of upcoming bills with all your future transactions clearly visible on your homepage.
  12. Make use of an additional login.
Useful when you want to check your balances but not carry out transactions, particularly when using public or shared computers. Also handy to allow another person, like your accountant, to only view your accounts. View our demo to see how easy and effective an additional login can be.
