The Commonwealth Bank has advanced security and fraud detection systems in place, monitoring your account 24/7.  This state of the art technology detects any abnormal transactions or spend patterns.  If a transaction is thought to be suspicious, we will contact you to confirm the transaction was yours.

Our guarantee

When you shop on the internet using your Commonwealth Bank credit card, the Commonwealth Bank provides a guarantee that you will not be liable for unauthorised transactions provided you comply with the Credit Cards Conditions of Use. This, plus the added protection of Secure Internet Shopping, means you're doubly protected.

Secure Internet Shopping (SIS)

Secure Internet Shopping (SIS) provides a more secure way to shop online by offering added protection against the fraudulent use of your card. Once you sign up, you can use your Commonwealth Bank Credit Card online at participating merchants with added confidence. All you have to do is enter your Visa Password or MasterCard SecureCode when buying online.

Before registering you will need to read the Secure Internet Shopping Conditions of Use.

Protecting your card

  • sign your card as soon as you receive it
  • don't let anyone else use your card
  • protect your PIN
  • don't write your PIN on your card or keep it in your wallet
  • don't choose a PIN that is easily identifiable (i.e. date of birth)
  • destroy expired or unwanted cards by cutting diagonally
  • when paying with a card, watch the staff for any strange or unusual behaviour
  • keep your card in sight when using your card in areas/countries known for fraudulent activity

Enhanced security chip protection

We've added a new safety feature to all new credit cards. It's called 'secure chip' technology and it's designed to make your credit card transactions more secure and will help minimise the risk of credit card fraud. The chip card provides greater security because it is more difficult to fraudulently copy the details of your card.

Keep your receipts

Keep a record of your transactions in case you need to return or exchange an item. This record should include the merchant's internet address and order information.
